Mangalore, June 10, 2014: Residents of Kunjathbail and Marakada in the city staged a Rasta Roko agitation on June 10, Tuesday in protest against the non-completion of the road concretisation works in the area. Their grouse was that the works which were initiated by the MCC two years ago, are not yet complete, and are also stalled at present.
The residents who feared that things may turn during monsoons, took to war path in order to alert the authorities concerned.
Some pointed out how the incomplete road led to accidents on many an occasion and has claimed innocent lives. They also alleged that local corporator has remained apathetic towards their problem and point out that there were no footpaths on the road where two schools are located, in turn endangering the lives of students.
Local MLA Moidin Bava who arrived at the spot tried to pacify the agitators and held talks with the corporator who has now agreed to let some portion of his land for the road works.
The MLA also assured that the interlock laying works would be done on that stretch of the road where the concretising is not complete. The MLA further said he has already directed the PWD authorities to take up the work.
Harinath, Corporator of Marakada was also present.
