Kasargod: 2 kids sold for Rs 3.25 lakh a yr ago; father, middlemen arrested

Kasargod, May 25, 2014: A case of selling two babies by its very own parents that took place almost a year ago in Kanhangad, stands exposed now with the arrest of  four persons including the father of the babies and three middle men. The arrests were made by Hosadurga police.

The accused  are Sulaiman (48), father of the children, Rasheed (32 ) of Hosadurga, Basheer (33) of Iriya and Moidu (55) of Ajanur. The mother of the children has been booked by the police. Police said the parents  sold the babies with the assistance of a lady advocate from Mangalore who  got a fee of Rs 25000.

They also said the babies, one and a half year old girl was sold for Rs 1.75 lakhs and a nine month old baby boy for Rs 1.5 lakhs. Both the children were born out of Sulaiman’s second marriage. He has a total of 12 children including 9 children from his first marriage and three from his second marriage, police informed.

Investigations have also revealed that even the middlemen were paid Rs 25000 after the sale of the children.

Police are trying to locate the whereabouts of the two children who were sold. The case stood exposed following a tip off and Sulaiman is learnt to have admitted during interrogation that he sold the babies to two families in Mangalore and that   he sold them for monetary gains as he was unable to take care of his children with his meagre income as a labourer.

Further investigations are underway.
