Karkala: Municipal engineer in Lokayukta net, ill gotten gains unearthed

Karkala June 10, 2014: The Lokayuktha’s continuing crackdown on corruption has resulted in one more prize catch in the form of Sridhar Naik, a local municipal engineer of Karkala.  A raiding party led by Udupi district Lokayukta deputy superintendent of police, Umesh Shet, has reportedly unearthed  a huge amount of unaccounted wealth including land and gold ornaments when it made a surprise visit at his house here.

 

 

The erring official is said to have been discovered to own two palatial houses at Nitte, one in his own name and the other in his wife’s name.

Naik has been the target of various allegations of impropriety and misuse of official powers since last year. The charges of irregularities leveled against him include facilitating encroachment of land belonging to a public park by a local educational institution and making unauthorized sale of municipal land on Hegde Road to local residents.

Hence the raid came following the buzz in local circles that some action should be taken against him.
