Janapada Siri unravels folk glory at Nudisiri Virasat

Moodbidri, Dec 21, 2013: A Janapada Siri programme organised as part of the ongoing Alva’s Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat 2013 at Vidyagiri in Moodbidri, was inaugurated by  the Sammelan President Dr BA Viveka Rai by beating the traditional drum or Dolu at the Nadoja HL Nagegowda  Vedike on December 20, Friday.


Addressing the gathering, Dr Rai said folk art which was passed on from generations is now on the verge of extinction.  Programmes like Janapada Siri go a long way in  promoting this art, he added.

Dr Ambalike Hirianna, Vice Chancellor of the Janapada Vishwavidyalaya, in his address, said the traditional  system of medicine is fast becoming extinct owing to  modernisation. He said the farmer of India was an agriculture scientist long before the Agricultural University came into being.


There was a Nagari Mela by a troupe of 20 artistes from Mysore. The troupe members in the age group of 10 to 35 left the audience spell bound by beating the Adi Dravida Thamate and Nagari.


Children’s writers feted:  Three writers who  made significant contributions to children’s literature were honoured during Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat. Those felicitated were Na D’Souza,  Sharanappa Kanchani and Eleyara Geleya Muliya. The Sammelan President honoured them with a cash prize of Rs 25000.
