I M Jayaram Shetty - Former Udupi BJP MP-Passes away

Udupi, May 16, 2014: Udupi’s former BJP Lagislator and Parlimentarian (1994-99) Sri. I M Jayaram Shetty (aged 64) passed away in a Bangalore hospital Thursday, it is indicated he was ailing for quite some time.

IM Jayaram She... He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but later joined the Congress. Irmady Moodalakatte Jayaram Shetty was MP of Udupi constituency in the 12th Lok Sabha. In 1994, he contested the Assembly elections for the first time from Byndoor on a BJP ticket and defeated Jayaprakash Hegde.

In 1998, contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Udupi on a BJP ticket he defeated Oscar Fernandes of Congress. He was defeated by Vinay Kumar Sorake of Congress in 1999. In 2004, he moved over to JD (U) and then to Samajwadi Party, before rejoining the Congress.

Irmady Moodalakatte Jayaram Shetty, was born to Irmady Bhujanga Shetty and Nagarathna Shetty Moodalakatte on May 1, 1951. After a bachelor of engineering degree from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, he was married Vidya J Shetty, the couple have two sons and a daughter, all of whom are married. He leaves good memories for the people of Udupi area.
