Udupi, April 10, 2014 : The family from Trissur in Kerala which was perturbed after losing a suitcase containing 25 sovereigns of gold which fell off the luggage carrier of a Tata Sumo vehicle near Mahalakshmi Temple, Uchchila on April 7, Monday has heaved a sigh of relief now that the gold bag is back in its possession.
The family is grateful to a tourist car driver from Mudarangady who returned the suitcase with the gold inside it intact.
The Kerala family was on way to Padubidri from the railway station at Pangala in a vehicle along with Haridas Bhat of Pangala. They were supposed to attend a Brahmopadesha ceremony of a relative that day. However, the bag slipped off the luggage carrier and fell on the road.
Though those inside the car heard the sound, by the time they could take a turn and come, the suitcase was not at the spot and locals said someone in a bike had taken it away.
A complaint was then lodged with the police.
It is learnt, the sincere taxi driver who found the suitcase, could not immediately locate the owners. But, on reading about the incident in the newspapers he contacted Haridas Bhat and handed over the suitcase to him. Bhat said the honest taxi driver preferred to remain anonymous but has been suitably rewarded.
It is learnt the jewels belonged to Haripriya, Bhat’s daughter-in-law and Ratna Venugopal, her mother.
