Mangalore, May 31, 2014: Speaking at an interaction programme with the officials from the department of commerce and industry and various stake holders organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in the city on May 30, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director of Industries and Commerce Maheshwar Rao has assured that the work on power sub station at Export Promotion Investment Park (EPIP) at Ganjimutt will be completed in next 45 days.

 The KCCI in its memorandum submitted to the department, demanded supply of uninterrupted power to EPIP. Though EPIP is ready in all aspects including water,  road and other needs,  Mescom has not established its 220KV sub-station there, not allowing the  industrial area has not been able to take off .

In response, Maheshwar Rao said that he has instructed the Mescom to complete the work within six weeks, so that EPIP can start functioning. “I have also directed the deputy commissioner to follow up the matter,” he said.

Policy on Cashew :   Additional Chief Secretary to Department of Commerce and Industry Ratna Prabha said that the state government is formulating a policy on Cashew to boost the cashew industry. She welcomed suggestions from the stake holders, the KCCI placed a demand before the department to introduce the policy. The KCCI said that the cashew processing units in the district are depending on African countries for their requirement of raw cashew nuts as local production of raw cashew nuts in the State is not at all sufficient to meet the demands of the processing units functioning here. In reply she said that the department has drafted the policy and will finalise  it soon.

On the conflict surrounding the land allotted to Jayaprakash Engineering and Steel Company (JESCO), the Additional Chief Secretary promised of doing her best from the side of the government to fight in the court. “The issue is now in the court and from our side we will push it to get  land for the benefit of deserving industrialists”. KCCI President Mohammad Ameen presented the list of demands before the officials present.
