Mangalore, Mar 31, 2014 : Moodbidri police who acted upon the complaint of a young housewife who was married just eight months ago, have registered cases against a total of nine persons including her husband and in-laws for harassing her for more dowry and even driving her out of their house.
Police are present on the lookout for Nazeer Hussan, the husband of the victim who is absconding.
Those booked are Nazeer Hussain, his parents HA Khader and Bipathima, sisters Sauda Banu, Khateeja and Zubaida, brothers-in-law Sulaiman, Basheer and Ibrahim. All of them hail from Handelu near Moodbidri.
The young woman who is the daughter of Abdul Khader of Kinnikambla had married Nazeer in July last year. There is information that the groom was given as much as 65 sovereigns of gold and Rs 3 lakh in cash at the time of the wedding. It is said, Nazeer who was employed overseas did not rejoin his work after marriage and instead began to pester his wife for more dowry along with his parents and other family members.
It is said on February 28, the young woman was driven out of the house as her family did not pay heed to their dowry demand.
Investigations are underway.
