Mangalore, May 22, 2014: District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim and Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Maarla were among those who paid homage to those killed in the May 22, 2010 Air India Express crash, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the worst ever tragedy the city witnessed and claimed 158 lives.The dignitaries placed wreaths and paid respects to the departed souls.
Speaking on the occasion, District in-charge Minister Rai said the tragedy will forever remain in the minds of the people. He also prayed that the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy will be able to cope with the loss they suffered.
Mahesh Pai, Air Traffic Controller who was on duty at the airport when the plane crashed and was in touch with the pilot of the ill-fated plane before it crashed, was emotional while recollecting the incident.
Pai along with other airport officials also placed wreaths and paid their homage to those killed in the tragedy.
