Death of boy after surgery; family stages protest outside private hospital

Mangaluru, Nov 23, 2023: The death of a 16 year old boy who had sustained minor injuries in a road mishap, at a private hospital in Mukka where he was being treated, has sparked outrage among his family members and locals who staged a protest in front of the hospital on November 22, Wednesday blaming medical negligence for the death.

 

Congress leader Inayat Ali, CPI(M) leaders Munir Katipalla and many other tried to pacify the family members. Later as per the directions of the District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao, District Health Officer Dr Thammaiah arrived at the spot and spoke to the family members as well as the hospital authorities.

He later announced that an eight member team of specialist doctors would be formed to probe the case and later initiate action based on the report of the committee.

The boy Farhan of Kulai had sustained minor injuries in his leg in a mishap at Mukka on Tuesday night and was admitted to the private hospital in Mukka. It is learnt, he had spoken to his family members and friends after the mishap.

The family alleges the boy died of overdose of anesthesia which was administered to him during an emergency surgery. The surgery was performed on Wednesday morning. However the boy did not regain consciousness until afternoon. Later the doctors pronounced him dead.
