Mangalore, June 02, 2014: The DYFI staged a protest in front of the MESCOM office in the city on June 2, Monday in support of its several demands including opening of a sub-station at Kulur and a division of Kavoor sub-station. However chaos prevailed when MESCOM officials failed to turn up to accept the memorandum from the protestors. The angry protestors then tried to barge into the MESCOM office resulting in some confusion. Finally, a MESCOM officer arrived and accepted the memorandum.
The argument of the protestors was that with Kavoor sub-station having as many as eight wards of MCC under it, need to have separate sub-stations to serve the consumers efficiently.
Dayananda Shetty, Corporator of Kulur, who spoke at a protest meet said absence of adequate staff also caused inconvenience and added repeated appeal to fill the vacancies have been futile. He also said the bills issued have been defective many a time and that even the complaint redressal mechanism has not been satisfactory.
DYFI activists including Imtiyaz, Basheer Panjimogaru, Sharan Shetty and others took part in the protest.
