Mangalore, Jan 13, 2014: National Youth Day celebrations organised as part of the valedictory of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at the Sri Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangaladevi in Mangalore on January 12, Sunday were inaugurated by State Agriculture Minister Krishna Bhaire Gowda.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the ideals propagated by Swami Vivekananda will continue to be a source of inspiration for people across the world. Stating that Swami Vivekananda reposed great faith on the younger generation, Bhaire Gowda at the same time regretted that India could not register progress on expected lines. He said the India of the vision of Swami Vivekananda can be realised only when the youth forge ahead with confidence and determination.
Dr N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, was present as a chief guest. He said India can be a beautiful and peaceful nation in the true sense when its people shun selfishness and lead a life of peace and brotherhood.
A documentary entitled ‘ Narendra’ based on the childhood of Swami Vivekananda, brought out by Ramakrishna Mutt, was released by Vinay Hegde on the occasion.
Swami Jithakamandaji, Head of the Ramakrishna Mutt, JR Lobo, MLA, resource persons K Raghottam Rao, Tejaswi Soorya were present.
