Centre must frame new policy to safeguard regional languages: Mukhyamantri Chandru

Mangalore, June 2, 2014: Mukhyamantri Chandru, President of the Kannada Development Authority has stressed the need for a new policy which not only encourages teaching English to students, but also safeguards the interests of regional languages.

Addressing press persons at the DC Office Meeting Hall on June 2, Monday, Chandru  strongly felt that a recent Supreme Court judgement which does not make it mandatory for education in Kannada medium, may affect regional languages.

 

 

On the demand for a separate Tulu state  heard from some corners, he made it clear that he was not in support of the demand and that he would neither support such a demand on the pretext of development.

He also made a strong case for the newly elected MPs of the state to take  oath in their state language.  Chandru further said once Tulu is included in Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, he wouldn’t mind MPs of the region taking oath in Tulu.

He further stressed the need for further development of Kannada software and measures to issue Kannada advertisements in Kannada dailies.

While admitting that he could not achieve much during his tenure, he said he would be bringing out a booklet on his 33 point demands and hand it over to the government. He also urged the government to take steps to ensure that the KDA Presidents are allowed to complete their full term no matter there is change in government or not.

A book named ‘Mahabharathada Mahapaatragalu’  authored by Dr Chandrashekhar   Daamle was released by Kadri Navaneetha Shetty on the occasion.

Sadashiva Prabhu, Additional DC, Khader Shah, Information Officer, Dr K Muralidhar, Secretary of the KDA and others were present.
