Mangalore, Dec 20, 2013: The Central Market Head load Workers Union staged a huge protest in front of the main entrance of the central Market in the city on December 19, Thursday in support of their various demands.
Their main demands include provision of minimum wages, free house sites and issuing of BPL ration cards and identity cards to them.
Addressing the protestors, Sunil Kumar Bajal, CITU leader said the head load workers who have been working in Central Market since the past several years are deprived of amenities except a particular amount of wage per every load they carry. Most of the workers are struggling for ration card and other facilities, he said adding the workers were made to carry weights upto 120 kg though there is a ruling that the load they are made to carry is not more than 55 kg.
He also urged the government to construct a Shramika Bhavan for the labourers and ensure social security to them.
