Bouquet of demands awaits Union Rail Minister’s maiden visit to home turf

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 31, 2014: DK the home district of Union railways minister DV Sadananda Gowda, is all set to welcome him when he visits the area May 31.

Expectations from him are at a peak DVS will be in the district on a quick programme that will see him interact with party workers here, visit Puttur, the town that launched his political journey, and Mandekolu in Sullia taluk, his actual home where his mother and elder brother reside.

sadananda Preparing a  wish list which include immediate needs and demands of the region is the district unit of BJP which met on Wednesday. The organisers meeting chaired by Pratapsimha Nayak, president of district unit of the party placed on record its appreciation on DVS having assumed office as union railway minister  will take the oppotunity to present him with a list of long pending demands of the people of his home turf.

The first demand, and a very rational one, is for the setting up of railway division to cover Mangalore, separating it from Palakkad division of Southern Railway and to bring it under the South Western Railway head quartered in Hubli. Upgrading Mangalore railway station, both central and junction,  into class of railway station that fits its role, as assured in Railway Budgets. Timely construction of new railway level crossings, over bridges and underpasses are the major needs.

Starting of a new night train to Bangalore via Arasikere, daily running of day train to Bangalore, new train to connect Tirupati-Bangalore-Subrahmanya, upgrading of basic amenities at all major railway stations (at lease on par with those of near by Kerala) are also in the list. Transforming Karnataka in to a reasonable railway hub, speeding up issues of electrification of rail routes in Karnataka are cover most of  the other demands that the BJP party intends to raise with Gowda on his maiden visit to the city after assuming office. It is expected that organisations concerned with passenger welfare based in this region will also project the needful action for early attention.
