Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gulshan Relhan said that Chemistry played a major role in the greatest innovations of the last century. Science should be a panacea for all suffering of the world like cancer etc.

The borders between various streams of science is now blurring and ‘nanotechnology’ that borrows from mathematics, physics, material science and chemistry is an example for the vanishing of borders between various branches. Be it the God particle, nuclear fission, reactor critical or any other great inventions; chemistry’s role is significant.

“The chemists have created a world worth living and their inventions have made landmarks in the history of the world. Young minds should research and St Aloysius offers you latest technology that is conducive for research.” Dr. Relhan added.

Addressing the students, Fr Swebert D’silva SJ, Principal of St Aloysius College said “Young people should think beyond curriculum. Knowing and understanding of any subject matter is important.

Knowledge has to be used to make life better. Classrooms are not the place of dissemination of knowledge rather a place of creation of knowledge.”

Dr. John Deepak D’Souza, organizing secretary welcomed the gathering. The seminar was sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the Star College scheme. December 20, 2013 Dr Relhan will speak on the topic ‘Nuclear Fission and fusion.’
