Belthangady, Feb 1, 2014 : Police have finally succeeded in re-arresting an accused in the case of the murder of his wife who had given them a slip while being taken to the government hospital for medical examination on January 27. He was re-arrested in Ujire on January 31, Friday.
The accused is Satish (23) of Kanyadi near Dharmasthala. His wife Manjushree (19) who was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore with burn injuries had died on January 21, just three months after their marriage.
Manjushree’s family had lodged a police complaint suspecting him behind her death. According to them, he had doused her with kerosene and had set her ablaze.
It was only after Manjushree’s uncle complained to the Police Commissioner that an investigation was done and Satish arrested. However, he managed to escape when being taken to the Government Hospital for medical examination. Two cops were also suspended for dereliction of duty following the incident.
Satish was produced before the court on Friday and has been remanded to 15 days of judicial custody.
