Baikampady residents protest against irregularities in Mohiyudeen Jumma Masjid

Mangalore, Mar 25, 2013:The Baikampady Residents’ Association and Members of the Mohiyuddeen Jumma Masjid  staged a protest in front of the DC office  here on March 25, Monday  condemning the recent incident at the Masjid premises wherein the bodyguard of the masjid president and former minorities Development Corporation chairman NB Aboobakker fired in the air.

The protestors also filed a complaint with the DC and the Mangalore Police Commissioner demanding a probe into the irregularities in the masjid headed by Aboobakker. The committee members pointed out that during the incident that took place on March 23, Friday in the masjid premises, Aboobakker’s body guard had fired in the air after he picked up a quarrel with one Ismail whose bike accidentally hit Ranjith while the latter was waiting outside the masjid, even after Ismail apologized. They also pointed out that Ranjith did not suffer any injuries when the bike hit him. On hearing the bullet sounds, devotees inside the masjid had rushed out and tried to strike a compromise but of no avail with Ranjith later lodging a complaint against as many as 40 persons.

The protestors also pointed out that the Masjid Committee President Aboobakker had not presented the accounts pertaining to a marriage hall constructed by the masjid at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore. He was also not ready to step down, they pointed out and demanded a thorough probe into the alleged financial irregularities.

BA Jabbar, former president of the masjid, members of the masjid committee and several others were part of  the protest.
