Mangalore , April 4, 2013: Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has directed the members of the public who are owning weapons like guns and revolvers to deposit it in the respective local police stations or the licensed gun traders in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a meeting with the Mangalore Police Commissioner and senior police officials in connection with the maintenance of law and order during the elections, the DC said the above orders have been issued as per the directions of the Central Election Commission and to ensure peace and security during the elections.
The DC has asked all licensed gun holders for crop protection and self defence purposes, to deposit them in the police stations or with licensed gun dealers before 30-4-2013. In the event of any individual in dire need of gun for crop protection purposes, then they have to submit their appeals to the tahsildar along with relevant documents within a week.
Those who possess arms and are in urgent need of the same should also apply to the police Commissioner or the respective superintendents of police within one week.
Once the deposit period ends, the owners can take back their arms from the respective police stations.
