Udupi, June 10, 2014: Media was told by MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj in Udupi that the district has received funds to the tune of Rs 31 crore under Nagoratthana 2nd phase for the urban local bodies in the duration of seven months to initiate development works.
Of the total Rs 31 crore, Karkala town municipality, Saligarma town municipality and Kundapur town municipality have received Rs five crore each. The remaining Rs 16 crore is for use by Udupi CMC. The district has received Rs 360.79 lakh on October 1, 2013, Rs 508.85 lakh on February 1, 2014, Rs 242.96 lakh on April 4, 2014, Rs 238.75 lakh on May 5 and Rs 2,000 lakh on May 28 respectively.
Amrithamohothsava funds: Detailing the amount released under this fund, the MLA added that the Chief Minister has released Rs 5 crore under Amrithamohotsava fund and has assured release of the remaining sum of Rs 10 crore shortly. The funds under Amrithamohotsava was assured to Udupi CMC when BJP was in power.
He had assured Rs 25 crore for Udupi CMC to mark the CMC’s completion of 75 years. However, the BJP government had released only Rs 10 crore on May 13, 2011 and the remaining Rs 15 crore was still pending, following which, the works like Malpe-Padukere bridge, the construction of new building of Board high school and traffic police complex was temporarily halted.
Madhwaraj stressed that he had spoken to the Chief Minister over the pending funds and the pending projects, urging that the matter be set right soon.
