Mangalore, July 2, 2014: Tobacco Intervention Initiative (TII) centre of A.J. Institute of Dental Sciences observed Doctor’s Day on July 1st 2014.

 

On this occasion “TII Campaigns for Tobacco Free Kids” was launched and a workshop on “Training for Tobacco Cessation” was inaugurated which was carried out for 35 Health Professionals at the auditorium of A.J. Institute of Dental Sciences.

Dr Vijaya Hegde, Head –Department of Public Health Dentistry, A.J. Institute of Dental Sciences, welcomed the Gathering. The Chief Guest, Smt. Thulasi Maddineni, CEO –Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath inaugurated the programme and also addressed the gathering. Sri A.J. Shetty, Managing Director and Sri Prashanth Shetty, Vice President of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust were the Guests of Honor. Dr B. Sureshchandra, Dean/Director and Dr Bharath Shetty, Vice Principal, A.J. Institute of Dental Sciences were Present. Mr C.K Manjunath, Principal of Yenepoya School commended the efforts of TII centre and said that his institution was glad to be a part of this program.

 The Resource Persons for the Training Programme were Dr B. Unnikrishnan -Professor and Head, Dr Prasanna Mitra – Associate Professor, Dr Rekha T –Associate Professor from department of Community Medicine, KMC, Mangalore. Dr Rajani George, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry, A.J Institute of Dental Sciences, delivered the Vote of Thanks.

As a part of the campaign a pilot program will be launched in 3 Private Schools of Mangalore namely Cambridge, Yenepoya and Lourdes Central School. School Teachers and School Children will be trained in tobacco control activities to make their school and its environment Tobacco Free. The main aim is to discourage the children in developing the habit. Program evaluation will be carried out and various intra and inter-school competitions will be conducted.
