500 kv power line from Nandikur to Kerala: Rai seeks alternate measures

Mangaluru, Oct 16, 2023: The state government must think of alternate measures via underground to draw 400 kv power lines from Nandikur in Udupi district to Kerala. The present measure has hit hard the farmers and small landholders, said senior Congress leader B Ramanatha Rai.

 

 

 

Speaking to reporters at Circuit House on October 16, Monday on behalf of the Action Committee that opposed the project, Rai said efforts are being made to implement the project without taking the farmers of Mangaluru and Bantwal taluk as well as farmers from both the districts into confidence.

The contracting company was planning to install hi-tension lines, this would adversely affect farmers and other land holders, he said.

As this is a Rs 900 crore project it is not a big task for the contract company to opt for alternate measures, he said.

Convenor of the Action Committee Shyam Prasad said the over 500 families from the two districts which will be affected by the project have been demanding alternate measures and not compensation since the past three and a half years.
