‘Bangrachi Goddadi’ Konkani Radio Play Released

Mangalore, January 11, 2014: Audio CD of ‘Bangrachi Goddadi’, a comedy Konkani radio play authored by Late Kudpi Vasudev Shenoy was released this evening by Kasaragodu Chinna, noted theatre personality and former President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
 
Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of World Konkani Centre; Dr. B. Devadasa Pai, Registrar, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, President Women’s National Education Society were the Guests of Honour during the function, which was hosted at Bhuvanendra Hall, Canara High School Main at Dongerkery in the city.

 

In his introductory address, the play’s Producer and Director Kudpi Rajnikanth Shenoy, who is also the son of the playwright said, late Kudpi Vasudeva Shenoy was a noted journalist, story writer and playwright of his time. He was the editor of ’Prabhata’ and founder editor of ’Navabharatha’ daily newspaper. Though most of his works were in Kannada, he also wrote two Konkani plays, namely ’Dolyan Khelu’ and ’Bhangrachi Goddadi’.

’Dolyan Khelu’ has already been recorded into a radio play by Global Konkani Friends and the CD was released in January 2012. Production of ’Bhangrachi Goddadi’, is the second venture of Global Konkani Friends, which is a group of Konkani friends settled in different parts of the globe. The group has joined together and recorded their voices to come out with the audio CD of ’Bhangrachi Goddadi’, he said.

In his address, the Chief Guest Kasaragodu Chinna observed that though Konkani people are intellectually gifted, their achievements are few in literary and cultural fields. The community should stop being complacent and should actively patronize literary and artistic endeavors, he urged.
 
Guest of Honour Dr. B. Devadasa Pai lauded the efforts of the producers in bringing out the CD and said it was befitting tribute to our earlier generation of creative talent.
 
Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy assured all help from World Konkani Centre in translating the works of Kudpi Vasudev Shenoy.

Three eminent Konkanis who were also Kudpi’s close associates and had acted in his plays were felicitated posthumously during the occasion, in presence of their family members. They were B V Baliga of ’Panchkadayi’ magazine, S R Balgopal (‘Balco’) of ’Jana Mana’ movie fame, and Manel Krishna Nayak.
 
Bhangrachi Goddadi has 14 scenes with social and family situational humour. There are 12 characters in the drama—two female and 10 male and GSB Konkani has been used in the dialogues.  Those who have contributed their voices for the main roles are Dr Ganesh Shenoy Panchmal, Kudpi Rajanikanth Shenoy, Muralidhar Kamath, S Mukund Kamath, Dr Lata Mallya Kini (California, USA), Sujir Manoj Nayak, Ashwin Prabhu M, and B Govindaraj Prabhu. ‘Sutradhar’ roles are performed by Kudpi Rajanikanth Shenoy and Madhukantha Kamath (Singapore).

S. Mukund Kamath proposed the Vote of Thanks, while Muslidhar Kamath was the master of ceremonies.
