Varanasi, Mar 09, 2016: A 48-year-old woman was beaten to death by at least two other women and their associates as she could not repay a loan she had taken from a self-help group run by some women in Bahadurganj town under Kasimganj police station area in Ghazipur district on Tuesday, police said.

Police said Meera Verma, a woman member of a self-help group, along with Munni Devi and four others, attacked Shahzadi who sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them later. Police have been deployed in the area after the incident.

According to police, Shahzadi borrowed money from the group a few months ago but was not able to repay the loans.

Police said that Meera, along with some members of the group, visited the house of Shahzadi for recovery of the loan. Meera and her associates asked Shahzadi to repay the loan immediately. It led to an argument. Soon, the two sides came to blows. Shahzadi sustained severe injuries and died on way to the hospital.

Her death led to a fresh brawl. Police rushed to the spot and pacified both sides. Police said that a case was registered against six persons —Meera Verma, Gopal Verma, Golu Verma, Munni Devi, Rameshwar Prasad and Rajendra Verma under relevant sections of IPC following the complaint by a relative Shahzadi.

Superintendent of police (rural area) Anil Kumar Singh said, “Teams have been constituted to arrest the suspects. They have carried out raids at various spots in search of the accused. Soon, they will be behind the bars.”
