Three out of seven JNU clips ‘doctored’

Mar 02, 2016: Forensic examination has revealed that three out of the seven video clips of the alleged ‘anti-national’ sloganeering in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on February 9, examined by the Delhi government, have been found to be ‘doctored’, sources told the Indian Express on Monday.

 

The video samples were sent by the Delhi government to Truth Lab in Hyderabad. On February 13, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi had ordered the District Magistrate (New Delhi) to file a factual report about the incident, following conflicting claims of different parties shouting allegedly anti-national slogans on the JNU campus.

Sources confirmed that three video clips that have been found doctored were found with ‘serious’ tampering and ‘very special words’ were inserted in the video clips.

The AAP had earlier questioned police action in the case and claimed, “The facts that are coming to light about this entire incident point towards a deep suspicion about the conspiratorial role played by the ABVP.”

On Monday, The Indian Express reported that that various video clips including those of TV channels, those available online and the one shot by a security guard in JNU have been examined by the Delhi government. The government also received inputs from JNU, that has recorded witness statements, in the course of the scrutiny.

According to sources, the various video clips suggested that nowhere in the videos of February 9, when Kanhaiya Kumar, currently in judicial custody facing charges of ‘sedition’, was seen raising any ‘anti-national’ slogans. No witness has said that Kumar had said anything against the country in his comments made after the alleged sloganeering by students on campus.

While there were claims of slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ being shouted on the JNU campus, no such slogan is audible in any of the video clips, sources said.

In an order issued on February 13, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia stated, “It is necessary to inquire into the incident and bring out a factual report. Accordingly, it is hereby ordered that the District Magistrate, New Delhi will inquire into the incident and submit a factual report to the government in fifteen days.”
