Rohtak sisters unlikely to get bravery award on Republic Day

Haryana,  Dec 04, 2014:  Two sisters from Rohtak who thrashed three alleged molesters on a moving bus in Haryana might not get awarded for bravery on Republic Day, 26 January 2014. Also read: Is there more to Rohtak sisters’ story than they claim?

The Haryana government has decided to put a hold on the decision to award the two sisters for bravery. Earlier, the parents of the accused approached the chief minister and demanded a fair probe..

The accused parents want the CM to see the other side of the story and want a fair investgation into the matter. The CM has assured the parents and put the decision to award the sisters on hold. Even the conductor of the bus and teh driver who were earlier suspende have been reinstated.

The sisters were to get Rs.31, 000 each on Republic day. The U-turn came just two days after the Haryana government announced the decision. Since then the residents of Kansla village from where the three accused hail had served an ultimatum on the district administration to release the three boys within 24 hours.

The residents had alleged that a false FIR has been registered against the three and should be quashed.

The residents said that the three boys have been falsely implicated. They claimed that it was not a case of alleged molestation but a dispute over seats. The seats had been allotted to the three boys, they claimed.

The entire incident, recorded by a passenger on mobile phone, went viral both on television and social media. It showed the two girls using their hand and belt to thrash the molesters.

The parents of the two girls lodged an FIR with Haryana Police against the three youths stating that the molesters got down at Kansla village in Rohtak. The victims in their complaint alleged that they were teased by some youths in a Haryana Roadways bus when they were going to their college on Friday. When the victims objected, one of the accused started beating them up.
