Ride begins From April in ’Namma Metro’ upto Mysuru Road

Bengaluru, Mar 15, 2016, DHNS: Bengalureans can travel by Namma Metro from Byappanahalli to Mysuru Road on the East-West corridor from April.


Namma MetroThe true utility of Metro would be felt once the entire stretch of 18.2 km of the East-West corridor, through the City’s nerve centre Majestic, is thrown open to the public.

Speaking to media here on Tuesday, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George said the work on the underground Kempegowda station at Majestic will be completed in 10 days.

“The Commissioner for Railway Safety will be invited for certification. Once we get the green signal, the entire East-West corridor from Byappanahalli to Mysuru Road will be thrown open. We expect this to happen by April 2016,” he said.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had earlier said that the East-West line will be fully operational by March-end 2016.

BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said the total built up area of Kempegowda station is seven and a half acres (equivalent to six football fields). It is divided into two levels and its total depth is 25 metres and it has been built at a cost of around Rs 500 crore. Once the station is ready and the CRS team clears the stations and tracks, services are likely to be begin by April first week.

The work on North-South corridor is also nearing completion. Namma Metro has set a target of three-and-a-half months to throw it open for commuters.

The BMRCL is targeting commercial operation of Northern line, Nagasandra to Kempegowda station, by June 2016, Kempegowda station to City Market to Yelachenahalli (Kanakapura Road) by July.
