Four militants killed as Army foils infiltration bid along LoC

Mangalore Today News Network

Srinagar, May 27 2017 DH: At least four militants were killed as army foiled a fresh infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rampur sector of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.

militantsSources said troops noticed the movement of a heavily armed group of militants along the LoC, who were trying to infiltrate into Indian side late Friday night."As the troops challenged the infiltrators, they opened fire and in the retaliatory action, four of them were neutralised," they said.

Sources said reinforcements have been rushed to the area and searches launched to nab the remaining militants. "It was a group of six to seven militants and army apprehends that two to three militants are either hiding in the area or might have gone back to Pakistani side," they said.

The encounter comes a day after Army foiled Border Action Team (BAT) strike along the LoC in Uri sector, killing two militants and recovering war like stores.

A senior Army officer said dozens of new launching pads have been activated by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen across the LoC and they are making all out efforts to push militants into the Indian territory with the onset of summer. “After the melting of snow on the LoC in summer, the militants try to make most of the difficult terrain by sneaking in the Kashmir valley. With summer already setting in, the militants have found different ways of entering the valley from Kupwara to Baramulla,” he said.

“However, well aware of the new strategy put in place by the LeT and HM, troops have strengthened the anti-infiltration grid. There is a possibility of more encounters along the LoC in coming weeks,” the officer added.
