Vismay was convicted of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The son of an eye surgeon, Vismay was driving the car at a high speed in February, 2013, and rammed a motorcycle, flinging its two riders into the air, before crashing into a tree. The 27-year-old then abandoned the car and ran away, according to an eyewitness.

The man riding pillion on the bike, Shivam Dave, died within minutes; the driver Rahul Patel died a day later.

Chilling CCTV footage from a shopping complex nearby showed the collision and the bikers being thrown in the air.

Vismay’s father Amit Shah had said his driver was at the wheel of the BMW and was absconding.

But a witness said the man who abandoned the BMW spoke in English to him and was dressed in expensive clothes. The witness was friends with the men on the motorcycle. A group of them had gone out for dinner and were heading home when the accident took place.

The BMW was allegedly speeding at about 150 km per hour.
