Downpour across city, suburbs dissipates, no water-logging reported, air services still affected

Mumbai, Sep 21,2017: Heavy rains lashed the city and its suburbs on Tuesday afternoon and the rains continued through the night till Wednesday morning. However, there was no report of waterlogging or disruption of transport services.

On 29 August, the metropolis received more than 300 mm rainfall, crippling the transport services and throwing normal life out of gear.

08.06 am: In view of heavy rains, dabbawalas have called off their tiffin service for Wednesday.

08.02 am: Navi Mumbai, too, witnessed heavy rainfall on 19 September. Between 8:30 am to 11.30 pm, Belapur received 226.00 mm of rainfall while Nerul received 206.30 mm rainfall. The rainfall in Vashi was at 175.70 mm, while Airoli received 178.40 mm rainfall. The average rainfall was 196.60 mm.

07.55 am: A total of 56 flights have been cancelled at the Mumbai airport. The main runway remains closed. The SpiceJet flight has not been displaced yet. Operations is going slow on runway number 14 due to high tailwind. First flight departure from the said runway was at 00:30 am and first arrival at 01:30 am.

07.51 am: Heavy showers affect services in the Western Railway line.


7.47 am: According to BMC control room, there’s water-logging only at Andheri-Chakala area right now, no such reports from other places. Many incidents of trees falling have been reported throughout the city, but there is no proper count available yet.   The BMC will design a plan of action after the IMD releases their weather report 08.30 am on Wednesday.  


07.41 am: According to BMC disaster control room, in the last 24 hours, Colaba has received 191.1mm rainfall, while Santacruz received 257.7 mm.


  07:38 am: Mumbai Police have warned of a high tide expected at 12.03 pm and a low tide at 06.04 pm on Wednesday.


07:31 am: The Ministry of Earth Sciences on 18 September had predicted heavy rainfall stretched across five days from Monday. Showers in Konkan and Goa and coastal Karnataka are expected to continue till 23 September and decrease thereafter.


07.27 am: Last year on 20 September, Mumbai recorded 138 mm rainfall in a in the span of 21 hours starting from 08:30 am to 05:30 am the next day. These rainfall had covered over entire Konkan & Goa region due to the fresh cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra & South Gujarat coast. Meanwhile, Dahanu, which is about 110 km from the city, alone had received a monstrous rainfall of 529 mm in the span of 24 hours.


07.23 am: Much of the morning traffic is missing from Bandra. There are few autorickshaws and cabs on the street. Other vehicles are nowhere in sight.

07:21 am: Services at Chattrapati Shivaji airport have been shut.
