5 law students killed in bus-car collision

Dharwad, Sep 24, 2015, DHNS: Five law students were killed on the spot after the car they were travelling in rammed a KSRTC bus coming from the opposite direction near the University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad on Wednesday.

DharwadThe deceased have been identified as Anish Chinchore (21) son of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation corporator and senior Congress leader Deepak Chinchore; Shivadeep Dambal (21), son of Ballari Additional Superintendent of Police Vijaykumar Dambal; Yugant Patil (21), son of cotton scientist of UAS S S Patil; Karthik Naik (21) from Davangere and car driver Shivakumar Muttagi (25) from Bagewadi.

Govindappa Talawar from Badami and Prajwalkumar Udupi of Ron were injured in the accident.

They have been admitted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi and their condition is said to be critical.

According to the police, all the seven were studying law at Sri Siddappa Kambali Law College, Dharwad. The accident occurred when they were returning to Dharwad from Belagavi.

Police said that the driver of the speeding car, in his attempt to overtake a truck, rammed the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus coming from the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was torn into two pieces and three bodies were found around 50 metre away from the accident spot.

According to sources, the students had left Dharwad late on Tuesday night to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Suburban police have registered a case.
