Mangalore Today News Network

UAE: The UAE Kannadigas, an organization for Kannadigas led by Sarvotham Shetty, organized a programme to felicitate Gopal Hosur, the IGP of Western Range and Commissioner of Mangalore, on Feb 6, 2010 at Lotus Hotel Apartments in Dubai.

The programme was inaugurated by Sarvotham Shetty, president of Abhu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and UAE Bunts. He welcomed IGP Gopal Hosur, his wife, and Padmashree Dr. B R Shetty and requested them to take their seats as dignitaries on the dais. He also introduced the IGP, who was then felicitated by Dr. B R Shetty with a shawl, fruits, flowers, and a memento.

Gopal Hosur then spoke about his 30 years of service in the police department and said that he would remember this day as a “special day in his life.” He expressed his gratitude to the members of the UAE Kannadigas. He appreciated the honesty, simplicity, and philanthropy of Dr. B R Shetty, at whose invitation he had visited UAE.

He voiced his opinions about the people of Mangalore as intelligent, spirited, and principled people. He said that, although media tends to exaggerate certain issues, it still does wonderful work.

After speaking about his life and achievements as a police officer, he lauded the rulers of UAE for maintaining law and order in an excellent manner. He expressed his gratitude to all the Kannadigas who are working in the UAE to help their families back at home. He said that he would convey their wishes to their loved ones in Mangalore and promised that he would make Mangalore a peaceful dwelling place for them.

Dr. Kaup and Dr. B K Yousuf, Mulur presented the IGP a memento and a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Beary Cultural Forum. Satish V Kumar of Chilly Willy presented a flower and a gift as a memento.

This was followed by a question and answer session during which the IGP was requested to interact with the media by conducting regular seminars in a bid to bridge the communication gap between the police department and the media. Another suggestion was that it would be a good idea to interact with the educational institutions to create more awareness among the students about the police department and its duties and responsibilities.

The IGP took these suggestions seriously and said that he would implement them. He said that he had an excellent team of officers, two of whom have already initiated the interaction programmes with students and have already addressed more than 10,000 students. He also said that the police department is doing it best to protect all the 3,590 places of worship in Mangalore.

He said that the UAE Kannadigas were free to email him with suggestions or queries at
gopalhosur@yahoo.com or commissionerjoint@yahoo.co.in

Dr B R Shetty made the concluding speech in which he thanked IGP Gopal Hosur for accepting his invitation. He also thanked everybody responsible for making the programme a success.
