Trust demands revision of master plan

Trust demands revision of master plan

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Feb 14: The Karavali Civil Rights Protection Trust demanded a complete revision of the master plan since the officials who designed it have not discussed issues with the citizens. The trust also demanded the appointment of a special officer to hold public meetings at least twice a year.

Mariamma Thomas, the president of the trust, protested against the flaws of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). Pointing out the differences in the topography of DK and Udupi, she said that the MCC and MUDA rules, which do not take into consideration this basic fact, are creating a number of problems for the people.

Expressing her dissatisfaction at the fact that MUDA officials take months to grant zone or no-objection certificates, she requested the minister to urge officials to issue zone certificates within a week, no objection certificates within 15 days, and layout certificates within 30 days. The trust also urged the minister of urban development to lower fines for illegal layouts from 15 percent to 5 percent.

Mentioning the fact that the MCC officers require MUDA approval for permitting residential buildings, the members of the trust argued that MUDA will take months to give its approval. They urged the minister to simplify the norms of licensing and the issuing of door numbers to houses constructed by poor people.
