The purpose of the trial run was to test factors such as security, x-ray, baggage handling, check in, and so on. The taxi facility, however, was missing. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) made arrangements for passengers who had just arrived.

The trial run was guided by Director General of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Civil Aviation. Airport sources said that, according to the aviation safety audit report, the new terminal meets all the safety requirements and that Wednesday’s trial run was a huge success.

V N Chandran, the director of the Bajpe Airport said that a report of the test run will be submitted to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This was just a trail run for domestic flights. Another trial run for international flights will be held soon with all the immigration facilities in place.

The new terminal building cost Rs. 147 crore and is sprawled around an area of 18,200 sq mts. The building includes a car parking facility that can hold 300 cars, several conveyor belts, an arrival hall that can hold 250 passengers, apron and taxiways, five parking stands, 2 aero bridges, and many other facilities.
