Mangalore, June 7, 2014: The  public seem always at a receiving end when it comes to shelling out  more money. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has given in to the  Private bus owners demands and raised  bus fares, for private buses in  DK with effect from June 7.  The minimum fare of Rs.7,  still is  unchanged. 
 
It must be noted, in this regard that the RTA has  strictly ordered  the buses will not unilaterally  revise the fare without the permission  of the RTA in the future. It also passed an order making it mandatory to  install emergency exit in buses, fix the application fee for bus pass  at Rs 50, digitise the ticket issuing in all buses within July 31 and all the buses must follow the traffic rule of plying on the left  side of the road strictly, as per a statement of the DK, RTA.It is not  known how these strictures will help in reducing costs?
 
The revised fare, the minimum fare (0.1 to 6.50 km) for express and  ordinary service buses is Rs 7;  the fare is Rs 12 for 6.6 to 13  kilometres, Rs 17 for 13.1 to 19.5 km, Rs 23 for 19.5 to 26 km, Rs 45  for 15.6 to 52 km, Rs 103 for 117.1 to Rs 123 km. 
 
The  Urban, revised fare for city buses  with minimum fare of Rs 7  for 1 to 4 kilometres, Rs 8 for 4.1 to 6 km, Rs 9for 4.1 to 6 km, Rs 12  for 10.1 to 12 km, so on and so forth. The revised fare for city buses  (rural) is Rs 7 for 0.1 to 4 km, Rs 8 for 4 to 8 km, Rs 9 for 8 to 10  km, Rs 13 for 12 to 14, Rs 15 for 16 and 18 so on.
 
Udupi RTA :  The Udupi deputy commissioner who is also the chairman  on the Regional Transport Authority will convene a meeting of the RTA  Udupi, to discuss revision of private bus fare at the DC’s office in  Udupi on June 11 at 4 pm. Can we expect good news?
