NITK hosts 2-day district level interactive programme

Mangalore, Dec 14: A 2-day district-level interactive programme between students and scientists will be organized at the Silver Jubilee Auditorium, NITK, Suratkal, on Dec 16, Wednesday, and Dec 17, Thursday. 

The Karnataka Rajya Vijanana Parishad; the directors of Mass Visual Science and Technological Department DSERT; and the Pre University Education Department are the organizers of this event. The state government sanctioned the funds required to organize this interactive event. 
Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, the director of NITK, Suratkal, said during a press conference, that the 2-day interactive programme will serve the purpose of slaking students’ thirst for knowledge and will enable them to learn more about their subjects of study. Besides, a group of 25 students will be chosen during this programme to represent the district at the National Science Day, which will be held in Bangalore on Feb 28, 2010. Dr. Sancheti said that the organizers expect a crowd of around 400 participants from high schools and pre-university colleges. 

He said that Prof Sayyed Akheel Ahmed, the vice chancellor of Yenepoya University will inaugurate the event. P Shivashankar, the CEO of DK Zilla Panchayat will make the welcome speech. The programme will be presided over by Prof Sancheti, the director of NITK. 

The chief guest of the valedictory ceremony, which will be organized on Dec 17, Thursday, will be DC V Ponnuraj. 

Eminent scientists such as Prof Sayyed Akheel Ahmed, the vice chancellor of Yenepoya University; Dr. Harish Bhat of Bharatiya Vijanana Mandira; Dr. Yogananda P S of SJ Engineering College; Dr. Mudakavi of Bharatiya Vijnana Mandira; and Dr. Nityananda Shetty of NITK will present sessions on a variety of scientific topics. Dr. Jayanth of St. Agnes College will give a demonstration titled “Akashadatta Ondu Nota.”

Dr. Subramanya Sharma, Prof Srinikethan, Dr. K V Rao, and Ramesh were also present during the press conference.
