Mangalore, Dec 13, 2012: Two eminent Konkani writers were conferred the Vishwa Konkani literary awards at a function held at the TV Raman Pai Hall in Mangalore on December 12, Wednesday under the aegis of the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation.
Pundalik N Naik, noted   Konkani playwright and novelist was awarded the Vimala V Pai Vishwa  Konkani Sahitya Puraskar. He won the award for his book entitled  ‘Rangakavya.’  Another famed Konkani writer Uday L Bhembre received the  Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award at the function  held  on the occasion of the 80th birth anniversary of Vimala V Pai.  Prof. Mallepuram G Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor  of Karnataka Sanskrit  University, conferred the awards which carry a cash prize of Rs one  lakh, a citation and a memento. Vimala V Pai was felicitated on the  occasion for her contributions to Konkani.
In his address,  Prof Mallepuram lauded the contribution of Konkani community to the  literary field and said the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation was  doing a commendable job in promoting Konkani art, literature and  culture.
The two awardees also spoke on the occasion. Basti  Vaman Shenoy, President of Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, TV  Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Educational Services were among  those on the dais. Raghunath Shet, Dr Geetha Shenoy, Dr Kasturi Mohan  Pai, Pradeep Pai, Ramdas Kamath, Guru Baliga, Melvyn Rodrigues,  Venkatesh Baliga and others were present.
