Mangalore, Dec 31: The Mangalore Premier League (MPL), T-20 cricket tournament, will commence on Feb 10 on the NMPT grounds at Panambur and will end on Feb 21. 

During a press conference organized on Dec 30, Wednesday at the press club, Manohar Amin, the president of the Mangalore Sports Club, said that the purpose of the tournament is to identify talented cricket players from Udupi, Mangalore, and Kodagu. These players will then be given an opportunity to participate in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) Ranaji Trophy, IPL by BCCI, and many other tournaments that will help them in their cricket career. 

He said that 8 teams and 150 players hailing from Kundapur, Karkala/Moodubidri, Mangalore, Puttur/Sullia, Madikeri, Udupi/Manipal, Suratkal/Mulki, Batwal/Belthangady, Maidkeri, Ullal, and Virajapet will participate in this tournament. 

The NMPT ground accommodates 5,000 – 7000 spectators. During this cricket season, 2 day matches and 1 floodlight match will be organized everyday, said Shashidhar Kodical, the director of Mangala Sports Pvt Ltd. 

On Jan 1, tender applications for MPL will be made available. On Jan 10, the logo and the pre-bid clarification will be released. On Jan 17, the tender applications will be submitted and the bids will be opened and awarded. Jan 23 is the last day to pay the first bid installment. On Jan 24, the cricket players will be auctioned. 

Samuel Jayaraj Muthu, the popular coach and honorary secretary of the Mangalore Sports Club; Rathan Kumar, the treasurer; and Ramachandra Baikampady, the chairman of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation were also present at the press conference.
