M’lore-origin doctor gives up job to help daughter study

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore Feb 13: A Mangalore-origin doctor in the UK has touched the hearts of many by suspending his medical career and accompanying his physically-challenged daughter for three years, while she studies for a degree in sociology at the University of Leicester.

Dr Anand Pai, who worked as an anaesthetist in the National Health Service in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, has extended full-time support to his daughter, Anuya Pai, 21, who uses a wheelchair as she goes about her studies on the campus.

Pai fetches books from the library and runs other errands for her on the campus. He and Anuya, who was born and brought up in the UK, live in adjoining rooms in university accommodation.

Pai said: “I am happy to be here with Anuya as she pursues her education. I know how important this is to her and I have always been willing to provide whatever support is necessary in order for my daughter to achieve her ambitions in life.”
