KMC Manipal presents workshop on Pharmacovigilance

Mangalore, Feb 12: A workshop on Pharmacovigilance and Ethics in Clinical Trials was organized at the Shirdi Sai Baba Cancer Hospital recently by the Department of Pharmacology, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal. More than 150 delegates from RGUHS, Gulbarga, Raichur, Cochin, Bellary, and Tamil Nadu attended the workshop.

Dr. G K Prabhu, the registrar of Manipal University (MU), and Dr. Shakunthala Pai, the associate dean of KMC, Manipal, inaugurated this workshop, which dealt with subjects such as clinical research, roles of ethics committee, and pharmacovigilance. 

The lectures were on topics such as importance of ethics in pharmacovigilance; identifying, monitoring, and reporting of adverse drug reactions; roles and responsibilities of principal investigators; patient informed consent; ethics committee submission; and much more. 

The speakers were Dr. Prabha Adhikari, the professor of the department of medicine KMC Mangalore; Dr. P S V N Sharma, the head of the Department of Psychiatry, KMC Manipal; Dr. Sudha Vidyasagar, Professor of the Department of Medicine KMC Manipal; Dr. M K Unnikrishnan, head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice MCOPS Manipal; Dr. Bharti Chogtu and Dr. Sachidananda Adiga, the associate professors of department pharmacology KMC Manipal; R Thiyagu of SRF-ICMR; and others.
