Government concerned about welfare of special kids: Krishna Palemar

Mangalore, Feb 3: The Janapada Nrityotsava 2010, jointly organized by Ganesha Seva Trust and Saanidhya Residential School and Training Center for the mentally challenged, concluded on Feb 2, Tuesday, at the Town Hall. Krishna Palemar, the chief guest of the valedictory programme, said that the government is concerned about the welfare of special kids and that he would personally ensure the proper distribution of funds sanctioned for their benefits. 

The purpose of the event was to encourage special children and to help them highlight their talents. Around 400 special children from 33 schools all over Karnataka participated in the folk dance competition.

Prizes were awarded to the winners during the valedictory programme. Chetana Special School, Karkala won the first prize; Swasta Rehabilitation Centre, Shuntikoppa won the second prize; and JSS Sahana School, Mysore won the third prize. Matta Special School, Dharwad; Arunodaya Special School; JSS Sahana School, Mysore; Lions Special School, Suratkal; and Chetana Special School, V T Road, Mangalore bagged consolation prizes. The judges were also felicitated on this occasion. 

Sr. Marie Prem D’Souza, principal of St Agnes College; Dr. Santhosh T Soans, the eminent pediatrician; Shakunthala, the deputy director of Women and Child Welfare Department, were the guests of honor. 

Mahabala Maria, the president of Ganesha Seva Trust, made the welcome speech. Vasanth Kumar Shetty, the honorary secretary, and Jagadeesh Shetty, the treasurer, were also present for the programme. Prof Radhakrishna conducted the programme.
