Mangalore Today News Network

Puttur, Feb 8: The house of Mr. D V Sadananda Gowda, the former state president of BJP, was burgled and cash and valuables worth Rs 8 - 10 lakh have been stolen in spite of the fact that the house was guarded by a private watchman as well as an armed police sentry. The house is located in Harady, Puttur.

Mr. Sadananda Gowda lodged a complaint at the Puttur police station, stating that the thieves have stolen gold ornaments and Rs 5 lakh. There was nobody in the house when it was burgled. The first floor is occupied by tenants, who claim that they did not hear or see anything.

The burglars had forced their way inside the house by breaking open the back door. Obviously, they had broken open the steel cupboards too and taken away the cash and jewelry.

Reliable sources within the BJP have revealed that Gowda stored party funds in his house. Police say that the burglary might have taken place on the night of Sunday. Friends and neighbors of Mr. Gowda said that he had left on Sunday night to pay a visit to his family, who is staying in Mangalore.

Police used the services of the dog squad and fingerprint experts to find some clues to the incident. Sub Inspector of Police Mr. Srikanth says that the police have found definite evidence pointing to the identity of the burglars. Certain clues have been uncovered by the police dogs.
The quiet town of Puttur has witnessed two more burglaries during the past few weeks.
