Dubai Bunts listen to Hosur’s encounters with Veerappan

Dubai, Feb 6: Gopal Hosur, the police commissioner of Mangalore, was the guest of honor and chief guest of the UAE Bunts’ “Family Meet 2010,” an open-air get-together organized at Zabeel Park, Dubai on Feb 5, 2010. He spoke about his encounters with Veerappan.

Sarvotham Shetty, the leader of UAE Bunts, was the comperer of the programme, which began with a Men’s and Women’s Dodge Ball game. Great games such as passing the rope, collecting names of roads, passing the ball, remembering photographs, passing the t-shirt, two-minute games, mime, guessing the weight of the watermelon, guessing the number of chocolates in the box, and many more were organized till noon. 

After the community lunch, UAE Bunts welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers. Hosur then spoke about his dangerous encounters with Veerappan while the audience listened spell-bound. 

He said that he was deputed to nab Veerappan in 1993. The gangster opened fire on Hosur and his team, as a result of which Hosur sustained 60 injuries and was left for dead. He had to undergo treatment for 6 months. The police commissioner remembered the staunch support of his wife who stood by him during those difficult days. He also spoke about his close relationship with the people of Dakshina Kannada, especially with the Bunt community. 

A series of cultural competitions were organized in the afternoon, after Mr. Hosur’s speech. Games were also conducted for the amusement of children.

The day-long programme ended at 6:30 p.m. with the vote of thanks and the prize distribution ceremony.
