Disgruntled citizens complain about badly damaged NH 48

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Dec 15: A committee of people residing in the regions along NH 48 spoke to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel about the pathetic condition of the NH 48 stretch that passes through Nanthoor, Volachchil, Padil, Thumbe, and Arukula. They informed Mr. Kateel that, owing to the bad condition of these roads, the number of fatal accidents is on the rise. Moreover, people are forced to undergo severe discomfort whenever they travel along these roads. Accordingly, a meeting was organized in the DC’s office on Dec 14, Monday, to discuss the issue.

Quite understandably, the people who reside in the areas along NH 48 are impatient at the slow pace with which the road-widening work is progressing, especially along the Nanthoor-Thumbe stretch. Ircon, which is in charge of the road-widening work, has not done any development work in these regions for nearly 3 years. The stretch of NH48 passing through these regions in currently in a pathetic condition of disrepair; and so far, Ircon has gotten away with empty promises and evasive replies.

The committee also invited an Ircon representative to the meeting in the DC’s office on Monday.

Nalin Kumar Kateel then spoke to DC Ponnuraj about the issue and pressurized Ircon to fill up the potholes in 10 days. The company said that they would submit a written statement, agreeing to this proposal, within a day.
