Mangaluru, Jan 24, 2020:  The Department of Posts will release special postal covers during the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Kannada poet Muddana, at Nandalike in Karkala taluk of Udupi district on Friday.

The celebration will be organised by Kavi Muddana Smaraka Mitra Mandali of Nandalike. The covers will be released on three concepts in the presence of Harsha N., senior superintendent of post offices, Mangaluru division. The concepts are the 150th birth anniversary of Muddana, silver jubilee of Muddana Prakashana, and platinum Jubilee celebrations of Mahalingeshwara Higher Primary School, Nandalike.

Better known as Mahakavi (great poet), Muddana lived from 1870 to 1901. His name at birth was Lakshmi Naaranappa. His birthplace being Nandalike, he wass sometimes also known as Nandalike Lakshminaaranappa. He wrote epics such as Adbhuta Ramayana, Sri Rama Pattabhisheka, Sri Ramashwamedham, Ratnavathee Kalyana and Kumara Vijaya, in addition to Yakshagana prasangas. Muddana experimented with a style that was hitherto unknown to Kannada. He introduced the character of Manorame (imaginary wife of poet) inhis stories.
