Mangalore, Feb 7: Ramesh Kumar (26), the city secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), was hit by a bus at Ernal in Udupi district on Friday and died in hospital on Saturday. 

Mr. Kumar bears the credit of unveiling a number of welfare scheme scams in Dakshina Kannada. Under his leadership, the DYFI unearthed and protested against the incident in which widows were not given the Rs. 10,000 that they were supposed to get as per the National Family Benefit Scheme. 

Kumar has left behind his mother, a beedi worker, and an 18-year-old sister. They performed his last rites in Adhyapadi, Bajpe, which is his native place.
