Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 8 : Amitabh Bachchan is all set to enter Malayalam film industry. He will be pairing up with Mohanlal in a film based on the Kandahar plane hijack.

The film also titled ‘Kandahar’ to be directed by Major Ravi will be a sequel to the latter’s films ‘Keerthichakara’ and ‘Kurukshetra’, both featuring Mohanlal.

Mohanlal and Ravi met the Bollywood icon on Sunday evening at Kochi where he the Bollywood superstar was there to inaugurate the Resul Pookkutty Foundation’s health welfare scheme and also to present the newsmaker award of a TV channel to Resul.

“We explained the story to him. He liked it and also his character and he has agreed to do the film. It is not a big role but certainly a powerful one,’’ said Mohanlal.

Major Ravi said Big B will play the role of a plane passenger. “It’s not a violent film, but more of a sentimental one,’’ he said.

The film is inspired by the hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight in 1999 while its was on its way to New Delhi from Kathmandu on Christmas eve. The plane was forced to land at  three airports — Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai — before ending up in Kandahar with 186 hostages on board.

Major Ravi, a former NSG commando, was part of the team that tracked down the killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Bangalore. ‘Kandahar’ will be shot in Kerala, Delhi, Kathmandu and Mumbai.

Incidentally, Big B and Mohanlal had acted together in  ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’ , a remake of ‘Sholay’, which however was a flop.
