51 books will be released during the World Tulu Convention

Mangalore, December 11: 51 books will be released during the World Tulu Convention, of which 5 have been published by Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Samshodana Kendra. One of these 4 books is a 220-page Kannada to Tulu dictionary, the first of its kind. This dictionary, which will be released on Friday, costs Rs 180.

The other books published by Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Samshodana Kendra are “Conversational Tulu,” “Tulu Nighantina Gadegalu,” “Siri Kavyaloka,” and “Kalevala.” These books were released during the inauguration ceremony.


“Conversational Tulu,” is an English book written by U P Upadhyaya, a Tulu research scholar and linguist. It costs Rs 210. “Kalevala,” the translation of a Finnish folk tale by Amrut Someshwar, costs Rs 40. “Tulu Nighantina Gadegalu,” compiled by Kottrayya costs Rs 100. The writer of Siri Kavyaloka is Kargi Shedthi. 
The Tulu dictionary, which was first published in 1988 and last reprinted in 1997, was also placed on sale at the World Tulu Convention. Just a handful of these dictionaries are now left. Each dictionary comprises 6 volumes. So far, the Tulu Academy has sold 800 dictionaries at the rate of Rs 500 per set.

Rare book stalls in the exhibtion
The book exhibition in the World Tulu Conference has been able to attract a countless number of bibliophiles. As many as 40 book stalls have been set up for the benefit of book lovers.


The book stall of the Kannada University at the World Tulu Conference has announced its special offer to sale certain books at a discount rate of fifty percent.


Tulu Sahitya Charitre, that has articles authored by various Tulu scholars and edited by erstwhile Vice-Chancellor of the Hampi University Dr. B. A. Vivek Rai, has a face value of Rs. 1000. But it is being offered at a special discount rate of Rs. 500 at the World Tulu Conference. Similarly, several books authored by famous scholars are kept for sale at discount rates.


In the book exhibition section a stall on books dedicated to government employees stands apart from all other stalls.


The stall headed by K.C.Vedamoorthy, the Editor of the monthly ‘Sarkari Naukarara Mithra’ has lodged the stall here to sell books that speak about legal aspects, Civil Service rules, Promotion Exam guides, office procedures etc. “These rarely found books like KCSR are for the benefit of State government employees and any such kind of books can be easily accessed here”, says K.C.Vedamoorthy.
