‘Vishishtarigagi Vishishta Mela’ on Jan 12

Mangaluru, Jan 12, 2020: ‘Vishishtarigagi Vishishta Mela’, the only carnival organised on the lines of melas exclusively for differently abled people and their families at Canara high school (Main) grounds in Dongerkery on January 12, was inspired by a family get-together in Mumbai.

Seva Bharathi President Sumathi V Shenoy said that in the early 90s, during one of her visits to Mumbai, she had witnessed a family get-together.The members arrived in the morning and after having unlimited food and fun, had left for home. Sumathi Shenoy inspired by the unique reunion decided to organise an event on the same lines for differently-abled from 1998 onwards.

In 2019, over 1,700 members participated in the Mela, being organised by Ashajyothi, a unit of Seva Bharathi.

About the event
Corporation Bank MD and CEO P V Bharthi, MESCOM MD Snehal will inaugurate the mela at 9.30 am. Nithyananda, Gururaj and Pradeep Kumar, alumni of Roman and Catherine Lobo Residential School for Visually-impaired People will be felicitated for securing ranks in BSW, Mangalore University. This year, the mela will provide information on documents needed for applying UDID card of Divyang issued by Central Government and documents required to get Legal Guardianship Certificate. Assistance will be provided to get disability identity cards.
