12 singers selected for Gulf Voice of Mangalore semi finals

Dubai, May 1 : The UAE-level Konkani singing competition organized by Mangalore Konkans at the Dubai Gem Private School on April 30, Friday was a huge success. The day-long competition attracted around 130 male as well as female participants in the solo, mixed duet, group singing, and Sangeet Kutumb categories. This competition is of great significance because 12 winners automatically get selected for the "Gulf Voice of Mangalore" competition, which carries a grand prize of Rs 1 lakh.  


The preliminary winners to the semi-final round of Gulf Voice of Mangalore are Reena Loren, Sabita Mathias, Cresilla Shanthi Rodrigues, Olivia D’Almeida, Loveeta D’Souza, and Veera Rodrigues in the female category; and Jeevan Edward Vas, Ashok Menezes, Ivan Fernandes, Mario Rego, Prashanth Pinto, and Robin Godwin D’Souza in the male category.


The judges for the morning session were renowned Kuwaiti musician Adrian Gomes; Jossy Moras, musician and certified western singer and Carnatic professional from Dubai; and the Dubai singer Olivia Rodrigues, were the judges for the morning session. 


The judges for the afternoon session were Fr. Denis D’Sa, the administrator of  Fr Muller Medical College; Ketan D’Souza, the musician; and Olinda Goveas, the renowned singer from Dubai. Chief Coordinator Manohar Pais felicitated the judges.  


President of Mangalore Konkans Santhosh Nazareth offered bouquets to Ivan Fernandes of DUCONT; Melwyn Rodrigues, who sponsored trophies; media partner Daijiworld.com; and Herman Lewis of Radio Spice, the radio partner, for their patronage.  


Lilly D’Almeida, the general secretary of Mangalore Konkans, made the welcome speech. The marathon singing competition lasted nearly 10 hours. Ms D’Almeida thanked all the participants, sponsors, and the audience. Stany D’Cunha, the member of Mangalore Konkans, proposed the vote of thanks.  


Ronald Culaco, the Bangalore-based philanthropist, is the platinum sponsor of the finals of "Gulf Voice of Mangalore," which will be held on Oct 22, 2010 at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium in Dubai. Mr. Colaco unveiled the "Gulf Voice of Mangalore" logo during this occasion.  


Rajesh Sequiera and Roshan D’Silva were the comperers of the event. Valerian Peris announced the names of the semi-finalists of the "Gulf Voice of Mangalore" from the UAE.  


James Mendonca, Linus Moras, Santhosh Nazareth, and the members of the singing competition committee were the dignitaries on the dais.  


Francis Mascarenhas, Lancy Madtha, Herman Lewis, Joseph Mathias, Hilda Pais, Ivan Fernandes, and Ronald Colaco distributed the prizes.
